The Videography Group's purpose is to educate members in the art of videography for the purpose of complementing still images or producing stand alone videos to document an event or occasion. No previous training is necessary.

The Videography Meetings involve presentations on some aspect of Videography that will assist members to enhance their skills at planning, producing and editing videos. All skill levels are welcome.

Short videos filmed by participants are presented and critiqued to help with the learning process. Equipment information and techniques are shared and a very informal and helpful environment lends to helping everyone improve their skill level

Burrowing Owls & Optional Lunch Field Trip

    What:

A Burrowing Owl expert will guide us to locations over a 2-hour period (8:30-10:30am) to photograph owls and chicks. At the end of the guided tour, we will  be able to continue photographing for 45 minutes or so before we meet for lunch.

    Background

The burrowing owl is a pint-sized bird that lives in open, treeless areas. The burrowing owl spends most of its time on the ground, where its sandy brown plumage provides camouflage from potential predators. One of Florida's smallest owls, it averages nine inches in height with a wingspan of 21 inches. The burrowing owl lacks the ear tufts of the more familiar woodland owls. Bright yellow eyes and a white chin accent the face. Unusually long legs provide additional height for a better view from its typical ground-level perch. They are listed in Florida as a Threatened Species.

(Thanks to Steve Race for the photos)

While the docents will often let one get fairly close, during nesting seasons that the boundary is 33 feet (which may guide you in the selection of lenses you might want to bring).  If anxious, they will run or fly away or at times retreat to their burrow and start hissing. Their population is dwindling due to loss of habitat and the eradication of prairie dogs and other animals that dig burrows.

Lunch is not included in the guided tour cost.

We have reservations at 12 Noon at Ford's Garage, 1719 Cape Coral Parkway, Cape Coral, about 3.5 miles (15 minute drive) from the Pelican Baseball Complex.  https://fordsgarageusa.com/locations/cape-coral/.

    The Theme is "Minimalism"

    • As the name suggests, this theme challenges you to emphasize simplicity in creating your image. But that doesn't mean your image must be sparse. Sometimes a minimalist image can include lines and shapes to create depth and perspective. Search "Minimalist Photography Examples for Inspiration.

Upload your image before 5:00 pm on Wednesday,  May 28.

Click here to submit your image.

    The requirements are the following:

    • One image per member.
    • Digital image file:
      • High quality JPG or PNG file.
      • 3840 x 2160 pixels (4k resolution) maximum.
      • Quality setting: 85+ in Lightroom, high in Photoshop, or similar in other programs.
      • Color Space: sRGB
      • 5 Mb maximum file size.
    • Criteria judged will be the overall impact, composition of elements, technical aspects, and adherence to the theme. It is important to keep the theme in mind when choosing your image.
    • Scoring by judges will be on a 20-point scale:  19-20 Excellent; 16-18 Stands Out; 13-15 Meets many criteria; 10-12 Meets some criteria; 6-9 Meets few criteria; 1-5 Missed the mark.
    • The file name is your image title. Make sure the title reflects your image, and does not contain your name or anything else that identifies you as the maker. Choose a title carefully. A good title will complement the image.
    • Challenge yourself and have fun.

If you need help resizing or exporting your photo with Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic, or Adobe Bridge, watch our videos here.

    • "What would you do?":  Be part of reviewing and giving constructive feedback on unedited photos.  What works in the photo; How can the photo be improved either by composition/editing; and what could be done differently next time.  After the discussion, the photographer shares the edited photo.  All attending are encouraged to bring their photos to be part to the "What would you do?" discussion.
    • Discuss post processing workflows and techniques.
    • Talk about how you use the new AI features when editing your photos.
    • Learn how to use your smartphone camera and when it may be the best camera for certain situations.
    • Explore camera settings and strategies used to capture sunsets, portraits, Macro.....
    • Learn more about your Webcam, Zoom meeting settings, and taking videos with your phone and/or camera.
    • Ask questions or learn about equipment:  cameras, lenses, flashes, tripods, Studio set-ups, etc.

These meetings are a fun way to meet and get to know members better. The group decides what topics to discuss at each meeting.

The primary objective is to have fun.  You definitely will learn useful tips during the meetings as an added bonus.

    The Theme is "Reflections"

    • This theme offers a wide range of possible subjects, from typical mirror reflections all the way to abstract reflections in moving water. Most shiny surfaces can produce a reflection, from mirrors to silverware to windows in a building. You can also create interesting reflection composites during post processing. Search "Reflection ideas for photography inspiration."

Upload your image before 5:00 pm on Wednesday,  July 2.

The Theme is "The Power of Red"

    • The color red is rich, intense, and full of emotion, making it a powerful tool in photography. Whether it's a vibrant sunset, the glow of neon lights, or a striking piece of fashion, red can dominate a scene or subtly highlight a key detail. In this theme, red serves as a focal point, drawing the viewer's eye with its bold presence. Experiment with the color red in your images and explore how combining red with recessive colors such as green can add depth and meaning to your image. Search "Inspiration for spectacular photos with the color red."

Upload your image before 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 1.
