Pete Wright is an international award-winning Master Photographer and writer based out of Bradenton, Fl. In his 18 years in business, he has photographed everything from professional sports, to weddings, to portraits. Through his experience growing up in the darkroom assisting and learning from his father, he truly fell in love with black and white photography. This ultimately led to his passion for recreating timeless Film Noir style portraits as an homage to his favorite photographer, George Hurrell.

Pete leaned on his experience as a professional and college sports photographer to transition to wedding photography in the late 90’s. He still leans on his ability to capture great sports moments to help him anticipate great moments at weddings. He is also known for finding unique locations and ways to photograph brides and grooms on their wedding day to give them powerful images to remember their wedding day.

In 2014 alone, Pete’s work was recognized with Best in Show honors in both Virginia and Southeast PPA (SEPPA), multiple category First Place awards in Virginia, SEPPA and North Carolina and also won the prestigous Canon Par Excellence Award, the Fuji Masterpice Award, LexJet Sunset Best Portrait Award and Lexjet 3rd place nationally, as well as a 3rd place PPA Grand Imaging Award and had multiple images not only merit, but also entered into the International Loan Collection at PPA. Pete has been awarded PPA Photographer of the year 8 times by meriting all four of his images in IPC.

In May 2015, Pete’s First Book “Cinematic Portraits, How to Create Classic Hollywood Photography” was published by Amherst Media and is soon to be followed in the Spring of 2016 by his Wedding Photography book co-authored with his wife, Liliana. His work is also featured prominently in the Amherst title “500 Poses for Photographing Full-Length Portraits: A Visual Sourcebook for Digital Portrait Photographers” Additionally Pete has been a regular contributor to Professional Photographer Magazine, Action News Magazine, Richmond Weddings Magazine and others.

Pete has been lecturing around the world since 2005 in both platform and hands-on environments. He has spoken four times at Imaging USA, six times at WPPI and at both has given hands-on programs. He has also taught around the U.S. at other workshops like After Dark, PSD Experience and various other state and regional conventions. Additionally, Pete has lectured in the Philippines, Grand Cayman, Bermuda and Jamaica and is scheduled to speak in 2016 at SWPP in London, England. You can also see Pete speak twice at WPPI in 2016 along with several times around the US in state conventions and workshops.

Pete has also been a huge advocate of print competition and works hard to not only encourage photographers to enter so that they can grow, but to also educate them on success in print competition. He has judged and chaired in state print competitions around the U.S., at IPC for PPA and for the last 6 years at WPPI, including chairing for WPPI in 2015 and is scheduled to chair again on 2016.

The 8×10 Print-Of-The-Month Contest (members only) theme is “Contrast and Tone” High key and low key images are great ways to show how contrast and tone can create the mood of an image.

Members wishing to submit (3) photos for share your work need to email them to Tim Wahl at shareyourwork@lwrdpc.com no later than Monday, the week of the meeting.
