Meeting with Guest Speaker Suzanne Havens at 6:30 pm

Topic: How to Get More in Focus with Your Macro Lens

Macro lenses are notorious for their shallow depth of field.  Suzanne will demonstrate how to get more in focus using focus bracketing in her camera, the Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark III, and focus stacking in Adobe Photoshop.

For the duration of The Orchid Show 2022 "Capturing the Perfect Shot," at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Suzanne and three other volunteer photographers demonstrated this technique in a pop-up studio in the Payne Mansion.

This interactive talk accompanied the closeups of Selby orchids printed on large-scale aluminum panels taken by the volunteers.

Suzanne's Bio:

Since moving to Venice in 2007 Suzanne’s mounted five one-woman shows of her artwork.

In 2020 her photo, "Ballet in Space" won Best in Show at the 40th Annual Selby Gardens Juried Photographic Exhibition.  Afterwards she became one of five volunteer photographers for Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The photographers make photos of each plant in the living collection for a digital data base that is shared with botanists worldwide.

She has a gallery of photos and paintings at  SuzanneHavens.com.

Suzanne Havens first started making photos at age 20 when she bought her first camera, a film SLR, and took classes at Michigan State University as part of her fine-arts degree curriculum.

Upon graduation Suzanne taught high school art for two years then switched career strategies and earned a Masters of International Business degree for a career in marketing and advertising, working in Atlanta and Manhattan.  Her last position was as Vice President, Senior Brand Planner at Fitzgerald + Co, a subsidiary the global Interpublic Group.  She developed brand strategies for clients including The Coca-Cola Company, Intercontinental Hotel Group, and St. Joe Company.

Now in “Act II” Suzanne is more active in her photography, painting, gardening, travel, raising funds for scholarships, and making presentations and teaching classes on Photoshop, creativity, the new color wheel, archetypes in art, montages, and garden photography.  She is a member of the Englewood Camera Club and the Florida Image Workshop.
