January Speaker

Erik Valind is a freelance photographer, born and raised on the Florida beaches, now living in New York City. Specializing in commercial lifestyle photography and environmental portraiture - airy and energetic imagery defines the style and vision of this top pro photographer. Erik also shares his visual approach, techniques and passion for photography internationally as a speaker at major photo conferences, as an author, and online as a CreativeLive and KelbyOne instructor.

Shaping an Image with Lenses and Light

Learn the cornerstone techniques and thought processes necessary to walk away from any portrait session with the best image possible. Choosing the right lens and composition to tell your story is just the beginning: You also need to select or create the best light to flatter your subject. Join Erik Valind as he explains how to achieve both with minimal equipment and maximum results. Classical and environmental portraiture topics will include: Composition of the face and frame, lens selection for different scenarios, the characteristics of light and how it behaves, finding the right natural light, how to control off-camera lighting, classical lighting patterns and where to apply them as well as tips for working with your subject.

Print of the  month theme is "My Mother's Favorite..."
