Focus Group Field Trips

Enjoy photography with others who share your special interests and passion by participating in a LWRDPC special interest Focus Group. Special interest focus groups are small gatherings of club members who meet periodically to share experiences, exchange tips and techniques, mentor each other, and provide constructive feedback.

Special interest focus groups work under the LWRDPC umbrella, and coordinate all activities through the main Club Executive Board. Each group has a facilitator who coordinates that group's activities so club members interested in participating with a focus group should contact the respective facilitator. Only club members are eligible to participate in these special interest focus group activities.

On Wednesday January 31, 2018 we will be taking our first Landscape Focus Group Field trip of 2018 to the Venice Pier in Venice, FL for sunset AND the rise of the full moon shortly thereafter! A group dinner will be held after the event at a nearby restaurant. We hope you will be able to join us.

We will meet at the Lakewood Ranch Town Hall at 4:00 PM to sign release forms and set up car pools. We will leave promptly at 4:15pm for our 30 minute trip to Venice. We will send out emails two days before the event to confirm how many will be attending and to get a head count for dinner reservations.

Upon arriving at the Pier area: 1600 Harbor Drive South, Venice, FL it is recommended to park as close as you can to Sharky's Restaurant. The pier parking lot is large and this parking location will assure you the shortest walk down the beach to the pier. We will gather on the beach near the pier.

Sunset is at 6:10pm and Full Moon Rise is at: 6:34pm. We will plan on dinner at Sharky's afterwards. There are no fees for this event other than dinner.

*** Focus Group Field Trips are for Members Only ***

This event is limited to 12 photographers
as Focus Groups are intended to be more of an educational event
than a get together to take photos.

We will leave town hall at 6:30AM to arrive at Cortez in time for sunrise at 7:10 AM.  Hopefully we will get a few pelicans flying in at this time.  The white pelicans normally hang around the docks by the Cortez Kitchen Restaurant. We will park in the Cortez Kitchen parking are and walk down the docks to the water.  Wear good sturdy shoes or sneakers since we will be walking on a narrow path and standing on floating docks.

We will have good light until about 9-9:30AM when shadows start to appear on the pelicans.  At that time you can either leave or walk around the fishing village for more photo opportunities.

No lunch is planned since this is such an early start.  The group will be limited to 8 people since the space at the docks is very small.
