Thank you for registering for the Everglades Photograpy Field Trip.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on April 24–26, 2026, and especially the Saturday, April 25 Bird Rookery and Sunset Boat Tour, for which you are registered. You paid a non-refundable deposit for the field trip.

The remaining non-refundable balance of $100 for your Full Itinerary registration is due by April 5, 2026.

Meeting Details for Boat Tour (April 25):
We will meet at 1100 Chokoloskee Dr., Chokoloskee at 4:50 PM.
The boat tour runs from 5:15 PM – 7:45 PM.

As we get closer to the field trip date, please review the February 22 Zoom recording and PowerPoint slides to help you prepare your checklist of what to bring. I will likely schedule another Zoom session around the middle of April.

The boat tour is currently sold out and there is a waitlist. If you are unable to attend, please cancel at your earliest convenience so we may offer your spot to another member.

The Theme is "Spring Awakening"

Celebrate renewal, growth, and fresh beginnings. Capture budding flowers, new leaves, migrating birds, or scenes that show the world coming alive after winter. Use color and light to highlight freshness-soft blossoms, rain-kissed greenery, or people enjoying the outdoors again. From subtle details like a dew-kissed flower to sweeping fields alive with new growth, convey the sense of spring's fresh energy.

Upload your image before 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8.

We have a new competition software/site! One-time registration is required.

Submittal requirements are as follows:

One image per member.
Digital image file:
- High quality JPG or PNG file.
- 1920 x 1080px is the recommended miniumum size..
- Quality setting: 85+ in Lightroom, high in Photoshop, or similar in other programs.
- Color Space: sRGB
- 2 Mb maximum file size.
Criteria judged will be the overall impact, composition of elements, technical aspects, and adherence to the theme. It is important to keep the theme in mind when choosing your image.
Scoring by judges will be on a 20-point scale: 19-20 Excellent; 16-18 Stands Out; 13-15 Meets many criteria; 10-12 Meets some criteria; 6-9 Meets few criteria; 1-5 Missed the mark.
The file name is your image title. Make sure the title reflects your image, and does not contain your name or anything else that identifies you as the maker. Choose a title carefully. A good title will complement the image.

Share Your Work

Submit up to three photos each month to be included in a slide presentation that will be shown at the next General Meeting and on the club's SmugMug site. Photos can be about any subject.

Submit Share Your Work images from your computer.

Submit Share Your work images from your phone or tablet.

Any submissions received late will automatically be carried over to the following month.

Registration is not required. Just click on the link above to submit your photos.

Each member is allowed to send up to 3 photos and/or a short video each month. Those photos and/or video can be on any subject as this is a great way to let other members see what kind of photography interests you, and what you have been shooting during the past month.

Please try to adjust your photos to at least 1920 pixels on the horizontal edge, if you can. If you are not sure how to do that just send them anyway. If there is a problem with their size, Dave Kurshan will let you know and walk you through the process of how to resize your photos.

Display Your Photos and Street Photography

Introduction: Here is an opportunity for you to showcase your work. We will have a booth set up to to showcase LWRDPC's wide range of photography. Also, this will be an excellent chance to practice street photography.

When: Start Apr. 10th at 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM (Arrive at 5:00 PM if dropping off photos)

We will be setting up a drop off for April 4th (location to be determined) for anyone who wants to showcase their work but can’t make it to the event on the 10th. We will return your prints at the General Meeting on the 13th. Just register and choose the ticket titled "Display Photos Only".

Where: Lakewood Ranch on Main Street - The precise booth location will be forwarded to registrants as we get closer to the event.

What: You will have the opportunity to showcase your work, enhance your skills at Street Photography and Promote photography to the general public.

NOTE: You do not have to display photos to attend. If you do want your photos displayed, please bring them to the event around 5:00 PM. This will give us time to set them up for display.

Photos: If you would like your work displayed, we ask that you bring either 8 x 10 or 16 x 20 photos that are mounted to foam core or framed with wire hangers. Photos mounted to foam core should be placed inside clear plastic sleeves for protection. Depending on the number of members registered for displaying photos, we may have to set a limit of 2 photos per club members. You will be notified on any limitiations once we know how many members have registered.

Background: This event is hosted by the LWR Business Alliance. This is free to the public, featuring live music, food trucks and interactive activities celebrating community, local businesses and residents.

Graham Smith Bio

Graham worked 30 years with mainframe & PCs of which over 10 years on numerous Dept of Defense (NRO, CIA, NSA) installing, calibrating, repair of table imaging scanners in coordination with geospatial analysis & intelligence gathering of images taken in outer space.

While stationed overseas, extensive traveling through UK I was able to photograph ecclesiastic old monasteries, abbeys, with stained glass windows as well as landscape photography.

In late 1990s, started photography of one my loves (road racing)
As a contributing photographer for AFP (Agence France Presse) Traveling to Canada, New York, Connecticut, Ohio Georgia & Florida covering IMSA, Indy Grand-Am formats. This past March was my 27thyear covering the 12 Hours of Sebring, basically a 4-day event.

In 2018, I accepted an offer to cover my first rocket launch (SpaceX Telstar 19). Since that launch, I’ve covered over 165 launches of SpaceX, Blue Origin, ULA (Atlas& Vulcan), & Artemis at Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida & Wallops Island in Viriginia.

Something New is Coming!

Our monthly competitions are doing exactly what they’re meant to do — helping us grow, improve, and push our photography forward. Every month, you receive thoughtful feedback from trained judges, and it shows in your work.

But that led us to ask an important question … If our monthly competitions are where we grow — what should our Salon be? So rather than replacing the Salon, we’re introducing something new this Spring — a Curated Showcase.

This Spring Showcase will focus on celebrating the creativity and storytelling of our members. Instead of judging and scoring, an experienced guest expert will select and present images that bring each theme to life — sharing exactly why each photograph earned its place.

This is not about competition.
It’s about showing your work in a new light.

There is a $10 entry fee to participate in the Showcase. This helps support our guest expert’s curation and commentary. You may enter up to 2 photos but they must be in different themes. Register for this event to pay the entry fee. Once you register, you will receive an email with a link to upload your photos.

The Salon isn't going anywhere — we're bringing it back in the fall. But this spring belongs to something we've never done before. An evening where the only question is -- look what we made.

How the Curated Showcase Will Work

We will prepare a presentation for the evening where our guest expert photographer will guide us through curated images in each theme — sharing what caught their eye and what makes each photograph work within each theme.

Your only job is to submit your best work and show up to enjoy the evening. Read the full description of each theme and choose an image you feel would best visually narrate that theme.
Every member who submits will receive feedback on their image, whether or not it is selected for the showcase.

The Three Themes

Submit up to two images (only one image per theme) for a $10 fee, which supports our expert guest. Choose your best work from any time. Please visit our club website for full descriptions of each theme.

What Happens After You Submit

You will receive a notification of your entry.
Themes with a high number of submissions will be narrowed in advance.
When needed, images will be narrowed to a manageable group, focusing on those that best represent the theme and work well together. This helps maintain a fair and consistent process while supporting our guest expert’s review.
Our guest expert will provide the final curation for each theme.
Working from a refined selection, they will select and thoughtfully sequence the images into a cohesive Showcase that brings each theme to life. They will also offer personal commentary, sharing what makes each image stand out and why it was selected.
You will hear from us either way.
Before the Showcase, you’ll receive a personal note if your image has been selected. If not, you will receive thoughtful feedback from experienced member photographers, along with suggestions to help guide your approach for the Fall Showcase.
Your image appears in our member gallery.
Every submitted image will be displayed afterwards in our online member gallery.

What is the difference between judging and curating?

Judging: Selects the strongest individual images based on technical quality, composition, and adherence to photographic standards. Judging rewards consistency and produces scores, rankings, and awards.
Curating: Selects images that work strongest together to visually express a theme. Curating emphasizes creativity, mood, and storytelling, resulting in a cohesive and engaging visual presentation.

How to think about selecting an image for curation for a Showcase theme.

What not to do: Don’t focus entirely on images with perfect composition, exposure, or images that follow all the “rules” of photography.
What to do, instead: Start with the theme. Choose images that support and interpret it visually. Think in terms of creativity and storytelling. Remember, your image will be part of a larger collection — the goal is not just for it to stand alone, but to contribute to a broader visual narrative.

Everglades Photography Field Trip (April 24, 2026)

Join us for an adventure-filled photography field trip to Southwest Florida, where we ’ll mix great local fare, iconic Everglades locations, and plenty of opportunities to shoot—day and night.

This trip is designed to be flexible and fun, with options for every shooting style, from landscapes and wildlife to night and street photography. We ’ll travel together at times, split into smaller groups when it makes sense, and leave room for spontaneous discoveries along the way. Final logistics, meeting times, and exact locations will follow.

We have reached the maximum group size for the boat tour of 12.

If the schedule below works for you, please register and submit a non-refundable deposit by April 10.

The Theme is "Abandoned/Forgotten"

Focus on objects, places, or scenes that tell a story of neglect, decay, or being out of place. Weathered barns, broken toys, rusting machinery, or empty chairs can evoke nostalgia, mystery, or poignancy. Think textures, shadows, and atmosphere that hint at stories long past, waiting to be rediscovered through your lens. Look for beauty in the overlooked or passed by.

Submittal requirements are as follows:

One image per member.
Digital image file:
- High quality JPG or PNG file.
- 1920 x 1080px is the recommended miniumum size..
- Quality setting: 85+ in Lightroom, high in Photoshop, or similar in other programs.
- Color Space: sRGB
- 2 Mb maximum file size.
Criteria judged will be the overall impact, composition of elements, technical aspects, and adherence to the theme. It is important to keep the theme in mind when choosing your image.
Scoring by judges will be on a 20-point scale: 19-20 Excellent; 16-18 Stands Out; 13-15 Meets many criteria; 10-12 Meets some criteria; 6-9 Meets few criteria; 1-5 Missed the mark.
The file name is your image title. Make sure the title reflects your image, and does not contain your name or anything else that identifies you as the maker. Choose a title carefully. A good title will complement the image.

Water is the stage-whether it's calm reflections, crashing waves, or human activity. Boats at rest or in motion, wildlife skimming the surface, shimmering reflections, or landscapes where rivers, lakes, or oceans dominate the scene. From action to stillness, water should be the central theme.

The Videography Group's purpose is to educate members in the art of videography for the purpose of complementing still images or producing stand alone videos to document an event or occasion. No previous training is necessary.

The Videography Meetings involve presentations on some aspect of Videography that will assist members to enhance their skills at planning, producing and editing videos. All skill levels are welcome.

The Theme is "Summertime Fun"

Show the joy and energy of summer. Think beach days, picnics, outdoor festivals, water play, or kids running through sprinklers. Look for vibrant colors, movement, and light that conveys carefree days, and warm evenings filled with laughter and adventure. Think warmth, energy, and playfulness-the little joys that define summer living.

Upload your image before 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 8.

We have a new competition software/site! One-time registration is required.

Registered: If you are already registered with the new competition software/site at pixoroo.com, click here to submit your Digital Image of the Month photo.

Submittal requirements are as follows:

One image per member.
Digital image file:
- High quality JPG or PNG file.
- 1920 x 1080px is the recommended miniumum size..
- Quality setting: 85+ in Lightroom, high in Photoshop, or similar in other programs.
- Color Space: sRGB
- 2 Mb maximum file size.
Criteria judged will be the overall impact, composition of elements, technical aspects, and adherence to the theme. It is important to keep the theme in mind when choosing your image.
Scoring by judges will be on a 20-point scale: 19-20 Excellent; 16-18 Stands Out; 13-15 Meets many criteria; 10-12 Meets some criteria; 6-9 Meets few criteria; 1-5 Missed the mark.
The file name is your image title. Make sure the title reflects your image, and does not contain your name or anything else that identifies you as the maker. Choose a title carefully. A good title will complement the image.
Challenge yourself and have fun.

Nature is full of repeating shapes, textures, and rhythms. The veins of a leaf, rippling sand dunes, shells, bird feathers, tree bark, or geological layers. The artistry of patterns can be bold and graphic or subtle and intricate. Your challenge is to frame them in a way that feels both natural and visually striking. Show how nature organizes itself into stunning and surprising visual harmony.
